The sin of the mother of us all
Oops! My bad. I forgot we’re no longer concerned about the globe warming. Now we’re worrying about the climate changing. Of course, the planet has warmed and cooled, and the climate has changed, since the earth was formed 4.5 billion years ago. But we’re doing something wrong, that’s for sure.
What these Gaia worshipers want is a return to the Garden of Eden. Man has become a curse on the natural world, and we should return to the state of nature. In greatly diminished numbers, of course.
But when Eve, our common mother, was tempted by the serpent, and tasted the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge, mankind was stained forever with her original sin. We were banished from the Garden of Eden, and forced to make our way in the larger world. We can never go back.
The Gospel of John the Divine begins, “In the beginning was the word.” The original Greek word, “logos”, was translated into ‘word.” But the alternative translation may be more illuminating. Logos also means “reason”.
So, “In the beginning was reason.” And it is reason itself that these pagans reject. It’s goes against their faith.
The power of faith
It’s snowing here in Gold Country. We’re at 2700 feet elevation, and this is highly unusual at this time of year. We’ve been here seventeen years, and have never seen anything like it. How can this be squared with global warning? It’s settled science after all, and the enlightened put their faith in science. How can this be explained?
The faith of true believers in environmentalism is like that of medieval Christians. They have the same certainty. In 1531 the faith of Christians was tested by the great Lisbon earthquake. It happened on a Sunday morning, with the faithful gathered in the cathedrals and churches of Portugal, witnessing the celebration of Holy Mass. 30,000 died in the rubble. How could a just and merciful God visit such a calamity on His worshipers? It was a mystery.
But the Christians persevered in their faith, and the environmentalists are as certain of theirs as 16th century Christians. Evidence notwithstanding, keep the faith.
It could snow in July, and they’d still believe.
Forget secession, try federalism
The value of federalism in our constitutional system is foreign to the thinking of leftists. With Trump in the White House it’s starting to make sense to them. California is the land of fruits, nuts and lotus eaters, and they want to be free to be who they are.
But secession is out of the question. One reason 19th century Americans lusted for California was as a gateway to trade with China and East Asia. The ports of San Diego and San Francisco were perfect, and still are. For reasons of national security, we can never lose them. We’re stuck with California.
For an analysis of why a breakup makes political sense for Democrats see this post in American Thinker.
Cal 3 isn’t perfect, but I’m all in
Cal 3 looks to be on the ballot in November, and I’ve already signed on as a volunteer. I’d love to be one of their spokesmen. I want to be part of the new South California, along with San Diego and the southern Central Valley. This should be a Republican state, and I will no longer feel like a political exile.
The people who came up with this map did a fabulous job, but it isn’t perfect. Mariposa, Tuolumne and Alpine Counties have only 73,000 residents total, so what state we’re in isn’t that important. Except to us. We don’t belong in North California, lumped in with the lunatics in the San Francisco Bay area. Put us in South California, and we’ll be happy. No one will miss us. We’re a bunch of NRA rednecks, and they’ll be glad to be rid of us.
I haven’t done anything in local or state politics since we moved here in 2001. There wasn’t much point. Now there is. The locals around here want their own state, to be called the state of Jefferson. They’ll never get it, but being part of South California would be a big improvement.
We need to organize, push passage of Cal 3, and tell our Tea Party Congressman, Tom McClintock, that when Congress draws the map of the new Californias, we want to be with the South, not the North.
I find this sort of thing very appealing. It takes all kinds.
